Enhancing language education in cross-border vocational education
Enhancing language education in cross-border vocational education, the project launched by the European Center for Modern Languages (ECML), is another project in which UKI has been involved since 2020. The aim of the project is to direct attention not only to the major world languages but also neighboring languages as a means to help shape a competitive business environment in cross-border regions. Within this project, a manual will be developed and piloted in which multilingual and intercultural vocational teaching modules will be developed and adapted to the needs of the individual cross-border region.
Lithuania is one of the four European countries (Germany, Poland, Luxembourg) involved in this project. In the first year of the project, each country is committed to providing needs analysis that will assist prospective and existing teachers assess and take into account the linguistically sensitive situation. This information will then be used to develop and pilot a teacher’s manual with guidelines, plurilingual and intercultural training modules and a teacher portfolio aimed at promoting multilingualism and cooperation. The Lithuanian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, the Lithuanian Language Teachers’ Association (LKPA), and vocational schools in the border regions will help implement the project.
