Training at the ECML
At the beginning of July, the IFL Director Dr. Teresė Ringailienė attended the Summer Academy organised by the European Commission’s Centre for Modern Languages in Graz, Austria. This year’s academy was titled “Inspiring Innovation in European Language Teacher Education” and its objectives were to initiate discussion and sharing of experiences among teacher educators, to provide a safe space for teacher educators to reflect on their own competences, values and professional identity and how they are affected by the current context of pluralism and constant change, to provide a deeper knowledge and understanding of developments in the field of European language teaching, to critically reflect on the various aspects of language teacher education (structure, content, location, research) and to explore the implications of the current context of pluralism and constant change as well as to explore the various aspects of the field of language teaching (e.g., research, methodologies, etc.) and to develop cooperation projects to address common challenges.
The training brought together 30 participants from 26 European countries. The participants listened to lectures by experts (Prof. Terry Lamb, Sarah Breslin, Jonas Erin, etc.), shared the experiences and challenges in their own countries and discussed the possibilities for future cooperation. The participants in smaller groups will also work on a joint project for language teachers; therefore, the cooperation between the countries and institutions will continue.
