Spanish language community event: screening of the film SIMÓN and Spanish conversation club
Vytautas Magnus University, the Spanish conversation club Kaunas Habla Español, and the Association of Spanish Teachers and Lecturers in Lithuania (ALPE) invite everyone interested in the Spanish language to a screening of the film SIMÓN and a conversation (charla) in Spanish after the film.
Simón is a 2023 drama by Venezuelan director Diego Vicentini about a young activist who, after being arrested and tortured during protests, is forced to leave his country and seek political asylum in Miami. The film sensitively and persuasively explores the difficult choices between security and duty, the search for identity, and the inner struggle faced by people forced to leave their homeland. The award-winning and Goya-nominated film invites viewers not only to learn about the current political reality, but also to experience a powerful emotional story that leaves no one indifferent.
The film will be shown with English subtitles, so those who have minimal knowledge of Spanish or have only recently begun to learn the language are also welcome.
After the screening, Kaunas Habla Español will traditionally invite participants to a conversation in Spanish, during which they will be able to practice their Spanish language skills.
We cordially invite students, upper-level schoolchildren, Spanish teachers, all lovers of the Spanish language, native speakers living in Lithuania, and the entire Spanish-speaking community to participate.
We sincerely thank the filmmakers for giving us the opportunity to show this film and share it with Lithuanian audiences.
Event time: Tuesday, February 24, 5:30 p.m.
