European Day of Languages “Tournament of Idioms”
‘Break a leg!’ – wishes you your friend Adam from England. Is Adam a friend, if he wishes you to break a leg? … And in fact, he just wants to wish you a good luck 😊.
Do you know more of such idioms in English, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian or French? Gather a multilingual team and come to this fun tournament of idiomatic expressions. Teams will receive several idioms in English, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian and French and will have to translate them (fine a suitable equivalent) into Lithuanian and other languages too, e.g. the English idiom “as cool as a cucumber” has a Lithuanian equivalent “ramus kaip belgas”. Your goal is to accurately translate as many idioms as possible to be a winner. You will be allowed to use an online dictionary.
The tournament takes place on September 26, at 9 a.m., in a lobby next to VMU Big hall (the second floor).
You can register your team up to 20 September.
The winners will be awarded useful prizes. THE FIRST PLACE AWARD IS ONE SEMESTER LANGUAGE COURSE.
